1. Check that regular and appropriate weather forcasts are available.
2. Check that communication procedures are in place and available
3. Check ground - soft/hard
4. Check for underground hazards, utility supplies.
5. Check overhead hazards.
6. Anchorages are suitable for the purpose and are holding fast.
7. Bracing wires on roof & walls are in place and adequately tensioned.
8. All ropes including wire ropes are sound.
9. Fabric is tensioned and not prone to ponding.
10. Emergency exits are in place.
11. Escape routes are clear.
12. Exposed ropes and stakes adjacent to exits and entrances are marked.
13. All locking pins and bolts are in place.
14. All structural supports are sound without cracks.
15. Eaves connection joints are securely locked home.
16. No unrepaired tears in fabric are present.
17. Flooring is evenly laid with no tripping points.
18. Carpet and other floor covering is securely fixed.
19. Roof lining does not drop significantly below eaves.
20. All timber uprights and ridges are free from splits that are likely to cause failure.
21. Walls are sucurely pegged/secured.
22. Any pole tent has its full complement of side uprights, anchor pins, pulley blocks and guy ropes.
23. The main uprights are independently guyed where appropriate.
24. No excessive weights suspended from roof beams, ridges etc.
25. Finally an all round visual check to satisfy that the tent is erected securely.

During inclement weather all parties must be aware of the limitations for safe occupancy.
We have the right to declare the tent unsafe for occupancy.
Our structures have to conform to wind loading stipulations.
Special care is taken to heat structures in winter to prevent snow loading.
Materials used in construction must conform to current British Standards of fire retardancy.
Ancillary Equipment
Heaters – instructions to be left with clients on operation-fuelling precautions.
Lighting –to be all 16amp/32amp external waterproof fittings.
All furniture is made by reputable companies.
Emergency lighting fitting – with lit green man fire exit – Velcro crash fire door.
Linings are fire retardant.
Reducing Risk
When working with structures number of guidelines to reduce risk and help for smooth
running.
Work should be carried out in accordance with previously agreed plans –no last minute
plans.
Structures to have adequate exits.
Structures maintained whilst in service.
Structures should not be tampered with when erected- removing of pegs,.anchor points or exits.
Removal of walls-can cause wind to enter marquee.
Flooring systems-joints taped and secured carpets-boarding alls secured.
Positive action regarding underground services.
All protruding guy ropes securing pegs to be well indicated or well guarded.
Dance floor to have leading edge with ramp.
It is important to note the following:-
• All marquees are supplied in flame retardant flexible pace.
• All carnival structures are wholly white or yellow castellation.
• Where interlocking plywood/plastic is used this will be laid to the ground conditions of the site.
• Where once used carpet is specified we will make every effort to supply the requested colour.However,we can only guarantee colour and condition if new carpet is ordered.
• Where resin backed carpet is specified this is fire resistant. Please note that this carpet is made from recycled fibres and shade and variations may occur.
• Where marquees or structures are to be opening fronted during the day, it is the hirer’s responsibility in the event of strong winds to ensure that the front’s are secured. They should also be closed and secured at night and after the event.
